In a world where time is money, subcontractors waiting to be paid for work they did through a disaster recovery housing project say they can no longer afford to be patient.
Three years have passed since the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development allocated $157 million in Round 1 Community Development Block Grants to Galveston to rehabilitate 1,021 homes damaged by Hurricane Ike in 2008.
As of Aug. 31, prime contractors Compass Pointe Homes, Consolidated Concepts and J. C. Cantera collectively owe their subcontractors and vendors about $4.6 million, some on invoices submitted almost a year ago, according to the Texas General Land Office.”
